What happened
Google introduced Nano Banana Pro, an image generation and editing model based on Gemini 3 Pro. This upgrade provides enhanced text rendering across multiple languages, improved real-world knowledge integration, and 4K resolution outputs. It offers finer creative controls, including camera angle, lighting, colour grading, and localised edits. The model blends up to 14 images, maintaining consistency for up to five individuals, and integrates with Google Search for real-time data, supporting infographic and diagram generation. It is deploying across the Gemini app, Google Slides, Google Vids, and Google AI Studio, with a new SynthID extension for AI image verification.
Why it matters
The introduction of Nano Banana Pro, with its advanced image blending, real-time information integration, and 4K output, increases the operational burden on content verification and authenticity assessment. This creates a visibility gap for platform operators and compliance teams in distinguishing AI-generated content from authentic media, particularly for images not processed through the new SynthID extension. The enhanced capabilities raise due diligence requirements for IT security and legal departments concerning potential misuse, such as sophisticated identity manipulation or the rapid dissemination of misinformation.
