Users can now interact with Maps using natural language voice commands for tasks like finding restaurants or adding calendar events. Gemini can understand multi-step requests, provide recommendations, and dynamically adjust routes in real-time.
Directions will be enhanced with real-world landmarks instead of just distances, leveraging Gemini's analysis of Street View images. The app will proactively alert users to traffic disruptions, even when they're not actively navigating. Users can also use Google Lens with Gemini to identify nearby businesses and landmarks by pointing their camera and asking questions. These new features are rolling out to Android and iOS devices, with Android Auto to follow.
By embedding Gemini directly into Maps, Google aims to create a seamless and native AI experience.
