General Motors will integrate Google's Gemini AI into its vehicles beginning in 2026. This move positions GM against competitors like Mercedes, which uses ChatGPT, and Tesla, which employs xAI's Grok. The Gemini-powered assistant will be available via an over-the-air update for OnStar-equipped vehicles.
The integration builds upon GM's existing partnership with Google, whose operating system already powers infotainment systems in several GM brands. The new system aims to provide more natural and context-aware interactions, overcoming the limitations of current voice assistants. Drivers can use natural language to draft messages, plan routes, and control vehicle systems.
GM also plans to test multiple AI models and emphasise user privacy controls. The integration of Google Gemini is part of a broader strategy to enhance the driving experience with advanced technology.
