Meta is expanding its AI-powered translation feature for Reels on Facebook and Instagram to include Hindi and Portuguese. This builds upon the initial launch with English and Spanish. The AI tool mimics the creator's voice and tone to translate Reels, and it also offers an optional lip-sync feature. This addition aims to break down language barriers, allowing creators to share their work with a broader global audience.
With the addition of Hindi and Portuguese, creators can now translate content across English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi. The translated Reels will have a label indicating AI involvement. Viewers also have the option to turn translations on or off, or watch Reels in their original language. Creators can enable the translation feature by selecting 'Translate your voice with Meta AI' before publishing.
This expansion is particularly important, with India being a significant market for Facebook and Instagram. The feature is available to Facebook creators with over 1,000 followers and all public Instagram accounts in supported regions. Meta plans to introduce support for additional languages in the future.
