What happened
Synology unveiled a roadmap for private AI infrastructure and AI-powered cyber-resilience tools at Computex 2026, expanding beyond its traditional network-attached storage (NAS) business. The company introduced the next generation of its DiskStation Manager (DSM) platform and ActiveProtect Manager 2.0. DSM will integrate AI capabilities like content generation and natural-language search across productivity apps, alongside a DSM Agent for operational guidance and future automation. ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 adds AI-powered threat detection and expanded cloud/virtualisation support, per Synology. Synology also plans GPU-enabled systems capable of running large language models locally within enterprise environments.
Why it matters
Organisations face new infrastructure demands for secure, on-premises AI workloads. Synology's roadmap provides platform engineers and security architects with tools for local LLM deployment and AI-powered data protection, reducing reliance on public cloud infrastructure. Expanded DSM governance features, including role-based access controls and audit capabilities, address data privacy and compliance constraints for AI systems. This follows Microsoft's recent launch of AI models and a cybersecurity tool, indicating a broader industry shift towards integrated AI and security solutions.
