What happened
Google launched "AI Works for Europe," committing an additional $30 million to its European AI Opportunity Fund. This initiative introduces new resources for foundational AI skills, partnering with public sector, non-profit organisations, employers, and universities to train European workers and students. Key programs include NewFutures:AI, collaborating with INCO and Chance to integrate AI skills into over 50 higher education institutions for students in ICT, administration, logistics, marketing, and finance. The Google AI Professional Certificate will also launch in ten European languages, aiming to reach 50,000 workers through local non-profit organisations.
Why it matters
European workers and students gain expanded access to AI skills training. Google's $30 million commitment and new professional certificate programs provide mechanisms for upskilling, particularly for roles in ICT, administration, logistics, marketing, and finance. This initiative supports Europe's economy, as 24% of entry-level job postings already demand AI-related skills. The investment provides free resources for teams to integrate AI literacy into talent development strategies.
