Amazon is launching Alexa+ Greetings, a new feature that brings conversational AI to Ring doorbells, enabling them to interact with visitors in a natural, context-aware manner. The system uses Ring's AI Video Descriptions to analyse the scene, identifying individuals based on their attire, actions, and any items they may be holding. This allows Alexa to distinguish between delivery personnel, salespeople, and friends, responding appropriately based on pre-set instructions.
Users can customise these interactions through the Alexa app or an Echo device, specifying how Alexa should respond to different scenarios. For example, Alexa can be instructed to tell delivery drivers to leave packages by the side door or to politely decline salespeople. The system can also handle follow-up questions, such as confirming signature requirements or relaying messages. This feature is compatible with Ring Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) and Ring Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen), and requires a Ring Home Premium Plan.
Alexa+ Greetings is currently rolling out to Early Access users in the US and Canada. This innovation transforms the Ring doorbell into an intelligent assistant, capable of managing front door interactions and alerting users to events in real-time, regardless of their location.
