Amazon is developing AI-powered smart glasses for delivery drivers to enhance efficiency and safety. The augmented reality glasses offer hands-free navigation, package scanning, and delivery confirmation. Designed with input from delivery associates, the glasses use computer vision and AI to display real-time information, such as routes, potential hazards, and delivery tasks.
The smart glasses activate upon parking, providing drivers with delivery details directly in their field of view. This includes locating packages within the vehicle and turn-by-turn directions. The system connects to a vest-worn controller with operational controls, a swappable battery, and an emergency button. The glasses also support prescription and transitional lenses.
Currently undergoing testing in North America, future versions could alert drivers to hazards like pets or incorrect addresses. Amazon aims to streamline the delivery process, potentially saving valuable time per delivery. The integration of AI and AR aims to improve both speed and safety for drivers.
