Apple is reportedly enhancing its enterprise AI capabilities beyond its existing OpenAI partnership, giving businesses more control over AI usage on corporate devices. The upcoming iOS 26 update will allow configuration of an enterprise version of ChatGPT, offering enhanced privacy settings, higher usage limits and company data integration. IT administrators will be able to restrict or allow any external AI provider, paving the way for future integrations with companies like Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft.
This modular approach enables businesses to choose which AI features to enable and whether employee AI requests can be routed to ChatGPT's cloud service, even without a direct enterprise deal with OpenAI. Apple's system ensures requests never go directly from Apple's cloud to ChatGPT, maintaining a clear separation. The new features, expected in September, also include an API for Apple Business Manager, new device management migration tools, and refinements to the Return to Service solution.
These updates demonstrate Apple's commitment to providing enterprises with robust AI governance, data privacy, and streamlined device management. The new API for Apple Business Manager will allow seamless integration with IT tools, while new device management tools will ease the transition of devices between management services.
