OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has revealed that the company is fast-tracking the development of GPT-6, with a focus on enhanced memory capabilities. This key feature aims to create more personalised, helpful, and trustworthy AI interactions by allowing the model to remember user preferences, routines, and even emotional nuances over time. Altman believes this will shift AI from a generic tool to a deeply integrated companion.
GPT-6 will adapt its tone, personality, and behaviour based on user history, fostering a sense of continuity and trust. This includes learning personal preferences, recognising voice and tone, and evolving with the user to provide consistent and relevant responses. OpenAI is collaborating with psychologists to ensure the model aligns with user well-being.
While the memory feature offers significant potential, Altman acknowledges the current lack of encryption in memory systems, posing privacy risks. OpenAI is exploring solutions to address these concerns. GPT-6 will also comply with AI neutrality rules, offering a default stance while allowing users to adjust the model's tone.
