The Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish government are investing €80 million in a Microsoft-powered quantum computer. The initiative, named QuNorth, aims to position the Nordic region as a leader in quantum technology. The new quantum computer, dubbed Magne, will combine Microsoft's Azure Quantum software with hardware from Atom Computing.

Magne is expected to feature 50 logical qubits and over 1,200 physical qubits. It is slated to begin operations by 2027 and will be housed in Copenhagen. The project intends to foster innovation in areas like drug discovery, materials science, and complex industrial processes.

QuNorth will support researchers and industry, develop new applications, and attract talent to the Nordic region. The initiative aims to secure the region's place at the forefront of the next technological revolution.
