Aker ASA, controlled by Kjell Inge Rokke, plans to establish an artificial intelligence facility in Narvik, Northern Norway. The project, known as Aaktik Digital, will capitalise on the region's access to clean hydropower and cold climate to power energy-intensive AI operations. Aker already has a construction-ready site with 230 MW of grid capacity.
The Narvik site, previously earmarked for green industry initiatives, is now evolving to meet the surging demand for AI infrastructure. Aker will consolidate its data centre activities under direct ownership. The company is in discussions with potential technology partners and customers.
This move aligns with Aker's strategy of leveraging Norwegian advantages and industrial capabilities to capitalise on global megatrends. The company aims to boost industrial development, create jobs, and increase export revenues through this initiative.
