Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) has successfully secured the necessary bids to acquire NTT Data Group in a deal valued at ¥2.37 trillion ($16.3 billion). This strategic move aims to enhance NTT's capabilities in artificial intelligence and streamline its corporate structure. By taking full control of NTT Data, NTT intends to accelerate decision-making, improve capital efficiency, and foster deeper coordination between its core operations and IT services.
The acquisition will enable NTT to leverage NTT Data's expertise in IT solutions, consulting, and data centre operations, particularly in high-growth areas such as North America. It also seeks to address governance challenges and conflicts of interest arising from dual stock listings. NTT plans to integrate NTT Data's AI services and expand its presence in key markets, aligning with the increasing demand for AI-driven solutions.
This acquisition follows NTT's previous restructuring efforts, including the full acquisition of NTT Docomo in 2020, and centralising its international operations under NTT Data in 2022. The deal is financed through bridge loans, which will be refinanced with long-term funding, demonstrating NTT's commitment to financial discipline and shareholder returns.
