Meta has acquired Limitless AI, a startup specialising in AI-powered wearable devices, to bolster its push into smart hardware and personal AI. Limitless is known for its pendant-style device that records and transcribes conversations. Meta's acquisition aligns with its vision of bringing 'personal superintelligence' to everyone through AI-enabled wearables.
Following the acquisition, Limitless will discontinue sales to new customers but will continue to support existing users for at least a year. Current customers will receive a free Unlimited Plan. The company is also sunsetting its Rewind app. This acquisition signals Meta's strategic pivot towards AI and its commitment to building AI-powered devices. Meta plans to leverage Limitless's technology to expand its portfolio of AI wearables.
Limitless, formerly known as Rewind, has raised over $33 million from investors, including Sam Altman and Andreessen Horowitz. The acquisition's financial terms remain undisclosed. Meta's increasing investment in AI includes building data centres, acquiring AI startups, and recruiting top researchers. By the end of 2025, Meta expects to operate over 1.3 million GPUs.
