Rivian is developing its own AI assistant for its vehicles, separate from its $5.8 billion technology joint venture with Volkswagen. The project, which has been in development for nearly two years, aims for release by the end of 2025. The AI assistant will integrate with vehicle controls, utilising both edge and cloud AI models.
Rivian's AI assistant uses a hybrid edge/cloud architecture with custom models and an agentic framework for vehicle control integration. The system is designed to coordinate workflows and resolve conflicts between different vehicle systems. Rivian aims to maintain control over the user experience and integrate the best available AI technologies.
Rivian plans to reveal more details during its AI and Autonomy Day. The company is also reportedly partnering with Google Gemini for its upcoming AI voice assistant, transitioning away from Amazon's Alexa. The new assistant may bring text messaging integration and expanded in-vehicle commands.
