Kaltura has acquired eSelf.ai, a company specialising in AI avatars, for approximately $27 million. The deal includes $7.5 million in cash at closing, $12.5 million in milestone-based payments over three years, and roughly 4.69 million Kaltura shares vesting over three years. This acquisition aims to integrate eSelf.ai's technology into Kaltura's AI Video Experience Cloud, enhancing its video products with immersive virtual agents.
eSelf.ai, which was recognised as one of the 'Next Big Things in Tech' by FastCompany, develops conversational photorealistic avatars supporting over 30 languages. Their technology combines AI-driven visual agents with low-latency speech recognition, screen understanding, and dynamic media sharing. Kaltura plans to use this to create interactive avatars and improve its existing Genies, enabling them to understand user screens in real-time and augment human roles in customer engagement and employee retention.
The acquisition is expected to close in Q4 2025, subject to standard closing conditions. Kaltura anticipates that this move will provide upsell opportunities, attract new enterprise clients, and expand self-service sales, marking a significant step in evolving enterprise video experiences with AI-infused virtual agents.
