What happened
Kaltura acquired eSelf.ai for approximately $27 million, comprising $7.5 million cash, $12.5 million in milestone payments, and 4.69 million shares. This integrates eSelf.ai's AI avatar technology, featuring conversational photorealistic agents supporting over 30 languages, into Kaltura's AI Video Experience Cloud. The technology combines AI-driven visual agents with low-latency speech recognition, screen understanding, and dynamic media sharing, enabling interactive avatars and enhanced Genies capable of real-time user screen comprehension for customer engagement and employee retention. The acquisition is expected to close in Q4 2025.
Why it matters
The integration of AI avatars with real-time screen understanding and dynamic media sharing introduces a new operational constraint regarding data visibility and control. This increases exposure for IT security and compliance teams to less explicit data capture and processing activities within meeting platforms. Existing data governance frameworks may face a visibility gap concerning information accessed or shared by these virtual agents, raising due diligence requirements for platform operators and data governance teams to monitor and secure these new interaction vectors.
