OpenAI has acquired Software Applications, Inc., the company behind Sky, a natural language AI interface for macOS. Sky is designed to understand screen content and execute actions within applications. The entire Software Applications team will join OpenAI to integrate Sky's capabilities into ChatGPT.
Sky functions as a lightweight overlay, leveraging macOS accessibility APIs to interpret on-screen information. It enables users to summarise text, automate tasks and control applications using natural language commands. OpenAI aims to evolve ChatGPT from a passive responder to an active assistant, seamlessly integrated into users' workflows.
This acquisition reflects OpenAI's strategy to embed AI directly into everyday computing tools. Sky's deep integration with macOS accelerates OpenAI's vision of bringing AI directly into the tools people use daily.
