Figma has acquired Weavy, an AI-powered image and video generation company based in Tel Aviv. The acquisition aims to bolster Figma's AI capabilities, integrating Weavy's technology into its platform under the new brand, Figma Weave. Weavy's platform allows users to blend outputs from multiple AI models, offering a node-based approach for greater control over generative AI outputs.
Weavy, founded in 2024, had secured $4 million in seed funding. Their platform enables designers to generate, edit, and refine media assets using prompts to modify elements like lighting and colours. It supports various models, including Sora and Veo for video, and Flux and Ideogram for image creation. Figma's CEO, Dylan Field, highlighted Weavy's balance between simplicity and power, aligning with Figma's vision for future design tools.
The acquisition signifies Figma's push to dominate the AI-enhanced design workflow space, positioning it against competitors like Adobe. While Weavy will initially operate as a standalone product, it will eventually be integrated into the Figma Weave ecosystem. The deal brings 20 engineers and designers from Weavy to Figma.
