Nvidia is increasing its investments in AI startups, solidifying its position in the venture capital landscape. The company has invested in 59 AI startups this year, surpassing its 2024 record of 55 investments. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, says that this investment strategy aims to support a broader AI ecosystem.
Nvidia's investments span various AI companies, including Reflection AI (autonomous programming agents), Reka AI (video analysis), and Perplexity AI (AI search engine). These startups benefit from Nvidia's capital, management access, and computing resources. Beyond direct AI applications, Nvidia is also investing in companies addressing the energy demands of AI, such as Redwood Materials, which focuses on battery recycling and energy storage for data centres.
Analysts suggest Nvidia aims to establish an ecosystem that will be difficult for competitors to penetrate. By supporting AI startups, Nvidia fosters innovation and ensures that new developments are built on its technological architecture. Nvidia's investment in OpenAI is projected to reach $100 billion.
