Meta has reassigned its top metaverse executive to oversee AI product development, signalling a strategic shift amidst company restructuring and recent job cuts. Vishal Shah, previously VP of Metaverse, will now lead AI product management under Nat Friedman in the Meta Superintelligence Labs. This move reflects Meta's focus on the competitive AI landscape, intensifying competition among tech giants to secure top talent and resources. Gabe Aul will now oversee all metaverse work, including avatars and content experiences. Ryan Cairns will continue to lead Quest virtual reality hardware and Meta's VR operating system, but he will now report directly to CTO Andrew Bosworth. Meta recently cut approximately 600 roles within its Superintelligence Labs unit. Despite this shift, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth has affirmed the metaverse remains a key priority, highlighting progress in VR hardware, the Horizon engine, and AI-driven tools.
