PayPal is partnering with OpenAI to integrate its payment services directly into ChatGPT, starting in 2026. This collaboration uses the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) and OpenAI's Instant Checkout feature to enable users to make purchases within the AI platform. PayPal will connect its extensive merchant network to ChatGPT, allowing tens of millions of businesses to offer their product catalogues via the AI assistant.
Through this integration, PayPal aims to streamline the shopping experience, allowing users to move from product discovery to checkout in a few steps. Customers will have access to PayPal's wallet features, including various funding options, buyer and seller protections, and post-purchase services. PayPal will manage payment processing, merchant routing, and transaction validation. The partnership also extends beyond commerce, with PayPal providing ChatGPT Enterprise access to its employees and utilising OpenAI's APIs for product development.
This initiative aims to make millions of products from various retail sectors, such as fashion, beauty and electronics, accessible and purchasable through ChatGPT. Merchants can immediately sign up for the service.
