Anker, the parent company of Eufy, has offered financial incentives to its camera owners in exchange for sharing video footage to enhance the company's AI systems. Hundreds of Eufy customers have reportedly contributed hundreds of thousands of videos.
The donated videos are intended to improve the accuracy of Eufy's AI-powered features, such as object detection and facial recognition. Eufy has stated that it uses locally stored videos to detect and recognise objects. The company has an 'Enhance My AI' program where users can donate videos and earn credits. These credits can then be redeemed for discounts.
This initiative highlights the increasing demand for data to train AI algorithms and the creative approaches companies are taking to obtain it. It also raises questions about data privacy and the ethical considerations of incentivising users to share personal video footage.
