What happened
Intel released HotFix driver 302.0.101.8517 - Q1.26 R2 for Arc Pro Graphics, increasing system memory allocation for Arc iGPUs from 87% to 93%. This update enables wider AI LLM support on Arc Pro B390, B370, and other Battlemage/Alchemist Arc Pro GPUs, including those built into select Intel Core Ultra Processors. For example, a 64 GB system can now dynamically allocate up to 59.5 GB to the iGPU.
Why it matters
This increased memory ceiling expands the range of large language models runnable directly on Intel-powered workstations and laptops. Platform engineers and developers can now deploy more complex local LLMs without requiring discrete GPUs with high VRAM, reducing hardware costs and improving accessibility for on-device AI inference. This allocation surpasses AMD Ryzen AI chips' 87% limit, shifting the competitive landscape for integrated AI acceleration.
