What happened
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles met Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to discuss Anthropic's new Mythos AI model. Anthropic claims Mythos surpasses human cybersecurity experts in finding and exploiting vulnerabilities, limiting its use to select customers. The UK's AI Security Institute confirmed Mythos Preview as a "step up," capable of exploiting weak security. Anthropic also launched Project Glasswing with Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and JPMorgan Chase to secure critical software. Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark noted similar models will emerge from other companies and open-weight sources.
Why it matters
The demonstrated capabilities of Anthropic's Mythos model fundamentally alter the cybersecurity threat landscape. Security architects must now assume advanced AI will actively probe systems for vulnerabilities, requiring a re-evaluation of defence strategies. For defence procurement teams, the model's ability to exploit weak security postures introduces new criteria for evaluating software and infrastructure resilience. Software development leads face increased pressure to harden codebases, as AI-driven vulnerability discovery will accelerate, with similar models expected from competitors. This follows past tensions where the Trump administration attempted to block federal agencies from using Anthropic products.
