Banks Trial Anthropic Mythos

Banks Trial Anthropic Mythos

12 April 2026

What happened

Wall Street banks, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Citigroup Inc., Bank of America Corp., and Morgan Stanley, are conducting internal trials of Anthropic's restricted Mythos AI model. Under "Project Glasswing," these institutions are evaluating Mythos to autonomously detect and chain multiple cybersecurity vulnerabilities, a task previously challenging for human analysts. US officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, encouraged banks to deploy the technology to strengthen digital defences against AI-powered cyberattacks. JPMorgan Chase & Co. is also involved in early-stage testing.

Why it matters

Access to Anthropic's Mythos AI shifts financial cybersecurity from reactive human analysis to proactive, autonomous vulnerability detection. This mechanism allows banks to identify complex vulnerability chains before exploitation, a capability traditional defences lack. For security architects and risk management teams, Mythos offers a measurable framework for managing cyber risks, potentially reshaping compliance standards for operational risk capital. The limited "Project Glasswing" rollout underscores the dual-use nature of advanced AI, where defensive capabilities also imply offensive potential, demanding careful oversight.
