What happened
Nokia expanded partnerships with TIM Brasil and Deutsche Telekom, capitalising on AI technology adoption. The TIM Brasil deal extends 5G network modernisation and AI preparation to 14 additional states, covering 42% of Brazil's population, enabling AI-driven services via Nvidia's AI-RAN platforms. Concurrently, Nokia and Deutsche Telekom will accelerate cloud-based, disaggregated, and AI-native radio access network (RAN) technology development. These agreements follow a multi-year contract with Telefonica for data centre network solutions across Spain.
Why it matters
Network operators face increased pressure to upgrade infrastructure for AI adoption. Procurement teams and network architects now confront the need to evaluate Nokia's expanded AI-RAN capabilities, particularly its integration with Nvidia's platforms, as a critical component for delivering AI-driven services to business customers. This follows Nokia's acquisition of Infinera last year and a $1 billion Nvidia investment, signalling a strategic shift towards AI and data centre demand.
