What happened
Nscale, a UK-based AI data centre startup, secured $2 billion in Series C funding, achieving a $14.6 billion valuation. Aker ASA and 8090 Industries led the round, with participation from Nvidia, Dell, Lenovo, and Nokia, among others. This capital will accelerate Nscale's global development of vertically integrated AI infrastructure, encompassing GPU compute, networking, data services, and orchestration software, across Europe, North America, and Asia. Former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, former UK deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, and former Yahoo president Susan Decker joined the company's board.
Why it matters
Significant capital infusion into Nscale signals continued investor confidence in the foundational infrastructure layer of AI. For CTOs and platform engineers, this expansion promises increased access to vertically integrated GPU compute and data services, potentially reducing procurement timelines and operational complexity for large-scale AI workloads. This $2 billion raise, following a $1.4 billion delayed-draw term loan in February and a $1.1 billion Series B in September, demonstrates sustained market demand for dedicated AI data centre capacity, reinforcing the trend of specialised infrastructure providers.
