What happened
Producers Amy Hobby and Avi Zev Weider launch "Films Not Made" on March 3, a podcast using generative AI, including Sora 2, to revive unproduced Hollywood film pitches. Weider processes guests' pitch materials, scripts, and documents through AI models, generating visual prototypes like a neo-2D animation for "Poodle Power" and an AI-created "Netflix" trailer. Guests include director Conrad Vernon and writer Rex Pickett, who revisit projects that previously failed to secure production.
Why it matters
AI tools now directly influence early-stage creative development, offering rapid prototyping for unproduced concepts. Creative development teams gain a mechanism to visualise pitches and test narrative ideas with AI-generated video, potentially reducing initial investment in concept validation. However, prompting with named actors, such as Jared Harris, highlights an emerging constraint around image rights and consent in AI-generated content. This follows Disney's recent $1 billion investment in OpenAI, which explicitly excluded talent likenesses from its licensing agreement. Procurement teams must prioritise clear usage policies for AI-generated likenesses.
