OpenAI is venturing into feature-length animation with 'Critterz,' a film about forest creatures embarking on an adventure after their village is disrupted. The project, spearheaded by OpenAI's Chad Nelson, aims to demonstrate AI's potential in streamlining film production.
With a budget of under $30 million and a nine-month production schedule, 'Critterz' intends to showcase that AI can significantly reduce the costs and time typically associated with animated films. The production will integrate human talent, including voice actors and artists, whose sketches will be enhanced using OpenAI's AI tools like GPT-5 and DALL-E. Writers from 'Paddington in Peru' are penning the script.
Vertigo Films and Native Foreign are co-producing, targeting a Cannes Film Festival premiere next May. OpenAI hopes 'Critterz' will encourage wider AI adoption in the film industry, proving its ability to deliver compelling content.
