Marissa Mayer, former Yahoo CEO, is shutting down her AI consumer software venture, Sunshine, after seven years. The company's assets are being acquired by Dazzle, Mayer's new AI startup. The decision, outlined in an email to Sunshine shareholders, has received overwhelming approval from investors, with approximately 99% already in favour.
While the specific focus of Dazzle remains undisclosed, sources suggest Mayer is developing an AI personal assistant. It is expected that Sunshine's team of around 15 employees will transition to Dazzle. Sunshine, initially named Lumi Labs, launched two products: Sunshine Contacts and Shine, both of which faced criticism and failed to gain traction.
Mayer stated that selling to Dazzle AI represents the most promising future for the company, as Dazzle is already established and has secured financial backing. Sunshine had raised $20 million in venture funding.
