OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Pulse, a proactive assistant designed to provide users with personalised updates and insights. Available as a preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers on mobile, Pulse leverages past chats, user feedback, and connected apps like Gmail and Google Calendar to deliver relevant information.
Pulse works by asynchronously researching topics of interest and presenting them as visual cards, which can be scanned for quick insights or expanded for more detail. Users can curate the research by providing feedback, teaching the AI what is useful. The system aims to learn user preferences and provide increasingly relevant suggestions over time.
While Pulse is designed to be a helpful daily briefing, OpenAI acknowledges that it may not always be accurate. Users can disable Pulse or manage connected apps in settings. This launch signals a move towards AI systems that proactively assist users, even when they are not actively asking questions.
