Spotify is implementing new measures to manage AI-generated content on its platform, including a music spam filter and clearer rules regarding AI voice clones. The streaming service will label AI-generated tracks to ensure transparency for listeners and protect artists' royalties. Spotify has already removed over 75 million spammy tracks in the past year.
The new policies include improved enforcement against impersonation, preventing unauthorised AI voice clones and deepfakes. Spotify is also working to prevent content mismatches, where music is fraudulently uploaded to another artist's profile. The company is collaborating with record labels to develop an industry standard for AI disclosures in music credits, indicating where AI was used in the track's creation.
These changes aim to support a more trustworthy music ecosystem, protecting artists from spam, impersonation, and deception. The measures follow a surge in AI-generated content on streaming platforms, with Spotify's rival Deezer reporting a significant increase in AI-generated tracks.
