An AI tool has been developed to assist doctors in identifying a frequently underdiagnosed and potentially fatal respiratory syndrome in critically ill patients. Developed by researchers at Endeavor Health and Northwestern University, the AI has demonstrated 93% accuracy in identifying historical cases. The tool is designed to help medical professionals recognise the subtle signs of this dangerous condition, enabling earlier and more effective intervention.
The AI works by analysing patient data to highlight patterns indicative of the syndrome, which can be challenging to diagnose through traditional methods. By improving early detection, the tool aims to reduce mortality rates and improve patient outcomes. Endeavor Health will soon pilot the AI with patients currently undergoing treatment.
If the pilot proves successful, the AI tool could be implemented more widely, transforming how this respiratory syndrome is diagnosed and managed in hospitals. This advancement showcases the potential of AI to enhance medical accuracy and efficiency, ultimately saving lives.
