A recent multi-hospital study by Mount Sinai Health System has revealed that artificial intelligence can predict hospital admissions from emergency departments several hours sooner than current methods allow. The AI model analyses data from over a million past patient visits and was tested against assessments from over 500 nurses across seven hospitals.
The AI's predictive capabilities offer numerous benefits, including improved patient care and experience, reduced emergency department overcrowding and patient boarding, and more efficient allocation of hospital resources. By providing clinicians with advance notice, hospitals can better manage patient flow and improve overall outcomes.
This innovation marks a significant step forward in applying AI to improve healthcare operations and address the growing crisis of emergency department overcrowding.
