China is leveraging artificial intelligence to significantly boost its economy through a national computing network. This network has already integrated over 100 AI models, marking a crucial step in the China-US technology competition. The initiative aims to address imbalances in computing power supply and demand, fostering collaborative innovation across hardware, algorithms, and systems. Over 200 service providers have joined the network, contributing more than 3,200 products, including AI model training and industrial simulations.
The national network seeks to optimise computing resources across the country, particularly by directing more data processing and storage to Western China, where costs are lower. This effort supports the development of advanced AI models and services, while also navigating challenges posed by US export controls on advanced semiconductors. The project emphasises integrating computing resources and improving computing power scheduling between regions to build a robust digital infrastructure.
