Apple is reportedly considering using Google's Gemini AI to enhance its Siri voice assistant. This move signals a potential shift towards greater reliance on external AI technologies. Apple has approached Google to explore the development of a custom AI model tailored for the next generation of Siri. Google has begun training a model that could operate on Apple's servers.
Internally, Apple is evaluating various AI models, including its own, to determine the optimal solution. Two versions of the new Siri are in development: one powered by Apple's internal models and another utilising external technology. This decision comes after delays in Siri's upgrade, which led to a reorganisation of the project's leadership.
While Apple has also explored collaborations with Anthropic and OpenAI, no final decision has been made regarding a partner. The updated Siri, potentially launching in spring 2026, aims to offer more advanced AI features, such as improved personalisation.
