Apple is significantly increasing its investment in artificial intelligence to catch up with its competitors. CEO Tim Cook has stated the company is open to acquisitions of any size to accelerate its AI roadmap. So far in 2025, Apple has already acquired seven companies across various disciplines, though none were major purchases.
While Apple prefers to develop technology in-house, it will acquire companies or intellectual property to fast-track progress. The company is focusing on strategic moves that align with its long-term goals, rather than headline-grabbing acquisitions. Apple's AI platform, Apple Intelligence, will power new features such as improved Siri capabilities, writing tools, and custom emojis.
Cook confirmed that AI spending increased in the June quarter and is set to rise again in the September quarter. Apple aims to integrate AI features closely with its hardware and software to maintain quality and privacy.
