GE Vernova is set to acquire Alteia SAS, a French AI software company, to enhance grid resilience. Alteia's software uses AI to analyse visual data, such as photos, to help power providers inspect infrastructure, manage vegetation, and assess damage after events like storms. This acquisition will integrate Alteia's AI capabilities into GE Vernova's GridOS platform.
By integrating Alteia's technology, GE Vernova aims to provide utilities with better situational awareness through visual data and operational data from systems like Advanced Distribution Management Software. This will enable proactive grid management and faster damage assessments, helping to reduce disruptions and speed up power restoration. The deal is part of GE Vernova's strategy to help utilities improve their operational systems.
The acquisition is expected to close on August 1 and will allow GE Vernova to invest further in its GridOS offering. The integration of visual and operational data will help utilities to 'see and sense' the grid, improving their ability to prevent catastrophic events and enhance overall grid resilience.
