Brookfield Asset Management is set to inject up to 95 billion kronor (£7.5 billion) into Sweden over the next 10-15 years, building a major AI infrastructure hub. The centrepiece is a new AI centre in Strängnäs, featuring a data centre that will expand from 300MW to 750MW capacity through a 350,000 sqm land allocation. This positions Sweden as a key player in Europe's burgeoning AI landscape, attracting other tech giants due to its reliable power, connectivity and infrastructure.
The project is expected to generate over 1,000 permanent jobs and around 2,000 construction jobs. Brookfield already owns property at the site and is looking to sign a land allocation agreement with the municipality to plan for two years to build the AI centre. This investment extends Brookfield's partnership with the Swedish government, public authorities, academia and businesses in the region. The move aligns with Europe's push for technological independence in AI, boosting sovereign compute capabilities for both public services and private enterprises.
