Sesame, a startup founded by former Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe, has secured $250 million in funding to develop AI-powered smartglasses. The company is building smartglasses designed for all-day wear, featuring natural language voice interaction. Sesame's smartglasses aim to provide high-quality audio and seamless access to an AI companion that can observe the world alongside the user.
The Series B funding round was led by Sequoia Capital and Spark Capital. Sesame is also launching an invite-only iOS beta to preview its conversational AI. The company's AI voices, named Maya and Miles, have already attracted over a million users and generated millions of minutes of conversation. Sesame's team includes several former Oculus executives, including co-founder Nate Mitchell as CPO, positioning them as a strong contender in the smart glasses market.
Sesame's approach focuses on creating a natural and emotionally resonant conversational AI experience. The company's AI generates speech directly, capturing the rhythm, emotion, and expressiveness of real dialogue. This technology aims to create stronger connections between users and digital worlds, blurring the line between real and virtual communication.
