Apple has unveiled its M5 chip, integrating it into the latest iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro models. The M5 chip utilises a third-generation 3-nanometer architecture, featuring a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, significantly boosting AI performance. The new GPU delivers up to 4x the peak GPU compute performance compared to the M4. Graphics capabilities are enhanced with third-generation ray tracing, providing up to 45% higher graphics performance than the M4.
The M5 incorporates up to a 10-core CPU with six efficiency cores and up to four performance cores, achieving 15% faster multithreaded performance compared to the M4. It also includes an improved 16-core Neural Engine and a powerful media engine, with unified memory bandwidth increased by nearly 30% to 153GB/s. The updated Vision Pro now renders 10% more pixels, increases refresh rates to 120Hz, and includes a Dual Knit Band for enhanced comfort. The new iPad Pro cellular models now feature an Apple C1X modem, promising up to 50% faster cellular speeds with 30% less power consumption. The new devices are available for pre-order now.
