Elon Musk's xAI is venturing into video game development, aiming to release a fully AI-generated game by the end of 2026. This move expands xAI's focus beyond its conversational AI platform, Grok. xAI is actively recruiting AI tutors specialising in video games to train Grok in game design, mechanics and storytelling.
The long-term goal is for Grok to dynamically generate entire game worlds and new levels in real time. Musk has expressed his ambition to integrate AI more deeply into creative industries. xAI's entry into gaming will be closely observed as one of the most ambitious efforts to apply generative AI in interactive entertainment.
AI agents are already being integrated into gaming workflows and user experiences. Musk's vision extends beyond video and image creation. xAI is building massive data centres to train and run its AI models. The first facility, named Colossus, is already operational, while Colossus 2 is under construction.
