What happened
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis declared humanity is "at the foothills of the singularity" at Google I/O, following demonstrations of advanced AI capabilities. This included Antigravity 2.0, an agentic system autonomously building a computer operating system for under $1,000, a task previously requiring months for engineering teams. Google also showcased Gemini Omni, a multimodal AI capable of generating and editing video from text, images, audio, and video inputs, which Hassabis links to AI's understanding of the physical world. Waymo is reportedly testing AI models for autonomous vehicles to "imagine" unpredictable situations.
