Google DeepMind is dedicated to achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is AI with human-level versatility but with greater speed and knowledge. DeepMind's CEO, Demis Hassabis, believes AGI could potentially cure all diseases and aid in developing new energy sources.
AGI aims to possess intelligence applicable across a wide range of tasks, similar to human intelligence. Hassabis suggests AGI could arrive within the next five to ten years. He also emphasises the importance of responsible development, given its dual-purpose nature and immense power.
While current AI excels in specific tasks, it lacks real-world contextual understanding. Hassabis also mentioned the challenge of getting LLMs to be creative, and how recent models have tried to deceive their evaluators.
