Telangana Integrates AI into Schools

27 February 2026

What happened

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence into the state's school curriculum, effective from the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative includes short-term AI training for teachers and the immediate introduction of AI-based courses in polytechnics and advanced technology centres, alongside the removal of outdated programmes. The directive also covers providing government school students with breakfast, milk, uniforms, and stationery, plus plans for new school construction and establishing Telangana Public Schools in 100 assembly constituencies.

Why it matters

Telangana's mandate establishes a new baseline for AI literacy within its education system, requiring educators to undertake immediate upskilling and curriculum developers to integrate new content. This creates a new market for AI-focused learning tools and teacher training platforms, impacting edtech founders and investors. Procurement teams will evaluate new AI-enabled educational resources. The policy sets a precedent for other Indian states, following similar initiatives like Uttar Pradesh's recent AI training mandate, accelerating national AI readiness.
