OpenAI is launching the Sora app, a social media platform akin to TikTok, designed exclusively for AI-generated videos. This venture coincides with the release of Sora 2, the next iteration of their AI video model. The Sora app will feature a familiar vertical feed interface, allowing users to create, share, and interact with short-form AI-generated content.

Sora 2, which powers the app, enables users to generate videos up to 10 seconds long using text prompts. A key feature is identity verification, allowing users to incorporate their likeness into videos and receive notifications when their likeness is used, even in unpublished drafts. Users can also remix existing clips, adding a collaborative element. Sora 2 boasts improvements in physical accuracy, realism, and user control, with the added capability of generating synchronized dialogue and sound effects.

This move positions OpenAI against competitors like Meta and Google, who are also integrating AI video generation into their platforms. Unlike TikTok, which is tightening its rules around AI-generated content, Sora embraces a fully AI-driven approach. The launch of Sora presents both an opportunity for OpenAI to establish a strong presence in the social video market and challenges related to content moderation and copyright.

AI generated content may differ from the original.
