Microsoft is set to invest $6.2 billion in AI compute infrastructure located in Narvik, Northern Norway. The agreement with Aker-Nscale will provide Microsoft with high-performance AI computing capacity, delivered in stages starting in 2026. The infrastructure will be powered by secure grid capacity using entirely renewable electricity.
The Aker-Nscale joint venture is expected to be formally established in the third quarter of 2025, pending completion conditions. This investment signifies Microsoft's commitment to serving customers in Norway and across Europe with advanced AI capabilities. The project aims to deliver cutting-edge AI infrastructure, leveraging Norway's renewable energy resources.
This move aligns with the trend of tech companies seeking specialised providers for rapid AI infrastructure deployment, rather than traditional data centre expansion.
