Microsoft is set to inject $30 billion into the UK over the next four years to bolster its AI infrastructure and operations. This represents the company's largest-ever financial commitment to the UK. A significant portion of this investment, $15 billion, will be allocated to capital expenditures aimed at expanding the UK's cloud and AI capabilities.
The investment will enable the construction of the UK's most powerful supercomputer, boasting over 23,000 NVIDIA GPUs, in collaboration with Nscale. This initiative aims to strengthen economic ties and reflects the UK-US Technology Partnership, aligning with the AI Action Plans of both countries. Microsoft already employs 6,000 people in the UK and houses multiple data centres, AI research labs and gaming studios.
Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, emphasised the company's commitment to creating opportunities for people and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic, ensuring America remains a reliable tech partner for the UK. This investment coincides with renewed commitments from other US companies like Oracle and Amazon Web Services in the UK.
