xAI has launched Grok Code Fast 1, a new AI model designed for agentic coding workflows. The company touts the model as being speedy and economical, addressing the need for more nimble and responsive solutions in coding. Grok Code Fast 1 has mastered the use of common tools like grep, terminal, and file editing.

Grok Code Fast 1 was built from scratch, using a new model architecture and a pre-training corpus rich with programming-related content. Post-training involved curating high-quality datasets that reflect real-world pull requests and coding tasks. The model is generally available via the xAI API, priced at $0.20 / 1M input tokens, $1.50 / 1M output tokens, and $0.02 / 1M cached input tokens.

Grok Code Fast 1 processes up to 92 tokens per second and supports a 256k token context window. It achieves a 70.8% score on the SWE-Bench-Verified benchmark, outperforming many generalist models in code generation accuracy. At $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.50 per million output tokens, it is significantly cheaper than other options.
