Nvidia is reportedly developing a new AI chip for the Chinese market, based on its Blackwell architecture. Tentatively named the B30A, the chip will be more powerful than the H20 GPUs that Nvidia is currently permitted to sell in China. However, it will have approximately half the computing power of Nvidia's flagship B300 Blackwell GPU, as it uses a single-die design compared to the B300's dual-die configuration.
The B30A will incorporate high-bandwidth memory and NVLink technology for rapid data transmission. Nvidia aims to provide samples to Chinese clients for testing as early as September. This move comes amid ongoing US-China trade tensions and export restrictions. The development also follows Chinese government discouragement of local companies using the H20 for government and national security purposes.
Nvidia is also reportedly working on another China-specific chip, the RTX6000D, designed for AI inference tasks. It is designed to comply with US export regulations. China accounted for 13% of Nvidia's revenue in the last fiscal year, highlighting the importance of the Chinese market to the company.
